Montreal Impact missed the chance to play in the Canadian Championship final as they were beaten 3-1 away from home by Vancouver Whitecaps. Impact manager Thierry Henry is left to rue a moment of madness from his player Rudy Camacho.
Camacho got his marching order in the 37th minute of the game. Leaving his team mate with an almost impossible task. The early dismissal of the defender saw the game swing towards Vancouver Whitecaps as Impact suffered a 3-1 loss.
Camacho, who was initially fouled, reacted angrily, hitting out at Fredy Montero. It was a huge frustration for frustration for Henry as the incident occurred inside the penalty area, thereby giving Vancouver a chance to take the lead from the penalty spot. Fredy Montero didn’t miss as he put his side ahead. Vancouver doubled their lead at the stroke of halftime as Christian Dajome scored after good work from central midfielder Manuel David Milinkovic. The score remained unchanged till half time.
There was little from the two sides as the game resumed. But after 70 minutes of play, there was a moment of hope for the Impact when Romell Quioto turned in the box and put the ball past Thomas Hasal. But all hope was dashed 8 minutes later when Montero got his second of the game.
Henry’s side will now face Philadelphia Union in their next game as they will try and address their patchy form. Impact have won three and lost three in their last six games. Vancouver on the other will be away to Real Salt Lake. They will want to build on this victory- their second in six games.
